Today let’s talk about the Electoral College – it seems like every 4 years we have the same debate about the usefulness or legitimacy of its existence. It was founded around the idea that there would in some ways get a final check against the ‘mob’ when it comes to the presidential election. It also ensured that tiny states like Rhode Island would still have a say in the outcome of the election.

Electors cast their vote on behalf of the state, and the candidate with the most votes from the individual states would win the election. So we have the scenario where a candidate can win the popular vote, but still lose an election, and in 2024 there exists the possibility of an incredibly messy outcome which could be thrown to the House of Representatives.

So let’s talk about it – does the Electoral College still serve us or is it an outdated mechanism that is no longer necessary? Leave us a comment and let us know what you think, and we’ll see you next time.
