A new poll by John Zogby Strategies shows President Donald Trump’s overall approval rating slipping to 45%, with 53% disapproving. This is a drop from his May rating which was 48% approval and 49% disapproval.

The poll was conducted online June 24-25, 2025 among 1,006 likely voters nationwide and has a margin-of-sampling error of +/-3.2 percentage points.

While the new poll reveals continued strong support from GOP voters (85% approve, 14% disapprove) and strong opposition among Democrats (88% disapprove, 11% approve), there is a stunning drop among independent voters with only 35% approving and 61% disapproving.

The late June poll also saw Mr. Trump’s approval on every issue tested dropping from May’s results. On immigration and the southern border, the President stood at 49% approval (from 56% in May). He dropped from 46% to 43% on handling the economy, from 50% to 45% on cutting government spending, from 46% to 42% on his diplomatic style, from 44% to 42% on tariffs, and from 47% to 44% on dealing with Israel and Iran.

Only 38% are proud that Mr. Trump is President while 48% are ashamed. This remains relatively unchanged from May, where 39% reported being proud and 47% reported feeling ashamed.

On the issue of Iran and Israel, 38% believe that his actions will resolve the war but 44% feel they will make it worse. Half support the President’s strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities and 40% opposed. But the support drops 8 points to 42% if it takes 6 months to destroy the facilities and only 36% if it takes a year.

Only 26% would support US boots on the ground in that effort, as 60% are opposed.

Zogby Strategies Analysis: The President’s support has dropped in the past month and the decline is most evident among independents. However, despite severe criticism for his actions in Iran by leading MAGA leaders like Tucker Carlson, Steve Bannon and Marjorie Taylor Greene, Mr. Trump holds on to his support among GOP voters. Voters are broadly supportive of his attack on Iran; however, this poll was taken mainly before the dispute over how much of Iran’s uranium enrichment facilities were destroyed. Most significantly, support for US military involvement in Iran drops sharply as voters are probed about 1 month, 6 months, and 1 year of military involvement. This is something our polling showed soon after the events of September 11, 2001. Initially, over 90% of the population supported a war on terrorism, but that support dwindled when voters learned the war would last longer.
